YouTube Transcript

Terms of Use

Effective: August 21, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your use of the YouTube Transcript Chrome extension, companion website, APIs, and related services (together, the "Service"). By installing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Service.

The Service

The Service helps you read, search, translate, summarise, export, and ask questions about captions available for the YouTube video you are viewing. Some features operate locally in Chrome. Caption fallback, translation, Summary, Chat AI, analytics, and service protection may use our backend and third-party providers as described in our Privacy Policy.

Eligibility and authority

You may use the Service only if you can legally agree to these Terms. If you use it for an organisation, you represent that you are authorised to accept these Terms for that organisation. Children may use the Service only with any consent or supervision required by applicable law.

Permitted use

We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the Service for lawful personal or internal business purposes, subject to these Terms and the rules of the websites and services with which it interacts.

You must not:

Captions, content, and your responsibilities

YouTube videos, captions, titles, and other source material belong to their respective owners. You are responsible for ensuring that your access, copying, export, translation, and reuse of that material complies with copyright, contract, privacy, and other applicable requirements. The Service does not grant you ownership of or additional rights to third-party content.

You retain any rights you have in questions or feedback you submit. You give us permission to process that material only as needed to operate, secure, support, and improve the Service in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

AI-generated results

Summaries, translations, Chat AI answers, keyword definitions, timestamps, and other generated results may be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading. They are provided for convenience and should be checked against the original video and captions. Do not rely on generated results as professional legal, medical, financial, safety, or other expert advice, or as the sole basis for decisions that could materially affect a person.

Third-party services

The Service interacts with services operated by third parties, including YouTube and infrastructure, analytics, storage, email, and AI providers. Their services may be governed by separate terms and policies, and we do not control their availability or content. YouTube Transcript is an independent product and is not sponsored, endorsed by, or affiliated with YouTube, Google, or OpenAI.

Availability, limits, and changes

The Service may not work for every video, language, browser configuration, or caption track. Features may be delayed or unavailable because of service limits, provider outages, maintenance, abuse prevention, budget controls, or changes made by third-party platforms. We may add, change, suspend, limit, or discontinue features. We do not promise that any feature will always be available or remain free of charge; any future paid offering will disclose its price and applicable purchase terms before payment.

Intellectual property

The extension code, interface, website, branding, and other materials we provide are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not grant rights to our names, logos, or branding, or any right to redistribute, sell, or create a misleading copy of the Service.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how the Service processes information and forms part of these Terms. By using the Service, you acknowledge those practices and the choices described there.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or error-free operation. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from or related to the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or USD 50. These limitations do not apply where prohibited by applicable law.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by disabling or uninstalling the extension. We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect users or the Service, enforce these Terms, comply with law, or respond to conduct that creates risk or disruption.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, providers, law, or risk. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we will provide a prominent notice as required. Continued use after the updated Terms take effect means you accept them; otherwise, you must stop using the Service.

Applicable law

Applicable law governs these Terms without limiting any mandatory consumer protections or rights available in your place of residence. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
